Commercial Care & Maintenance Tips
1. Vacuum Regularly
85% of dry soil can be removed by proper vacuuming. High traffic areas like entrances, hallways and break rooms should be vacuumed daily. Light to medium traffic areas should be vacuumed at least every 2-3 days.
2. Maintain Parking Lots, Sidewalks and Entrances By Sweeping Away Debris
This will reduce the amount of dirt tracked in, which will help keep your carpet and flooring cleaner longer. For parking lot or warehouse floor sweeping, contact Summit Sweeping. If resealing your asphalt parking lot, request a high quality sealer that will not track off and yellow the carpet.
Watch where you walk! Stepping in hot, sticky tar or oil in the parking lot will ensure it gets tracked inside and onto hard surfaces as well as carpet.
3. Use Walk Off Mats at Every Entry & Exit Point
Using the correct type and size of walk off mat is very important to keep dirt and debris from entering and spreading through a building. We recommend using the following combination of mats.
An Outside Entrance Mat is coarse and designed to remove and trap gritty soil.
An Inside Mat that extends for 6-15 feet inside the entrance will trap 80% of soil and moisture from the first 5 or 6 steps. Mats should be cleaned on a regular basis, more frequently than the carpet, so they will continue to trap as much soil as possible.
4. Drain Liquids From Containers Before Throwing Away
This can prevent trash bags from leaking when being carried over carpeted areas.
5. Use Chair Mats at Every Desk
Chair mats will prevent wear from shoes under the desk and damage to carpet from the wheels on office chairs.
