Can every spot/stain be treated the same way?
No! There are many types of spots that fit into three categories.
Oil Based Spots – These include gum, grease, nail polish, makeup, paint, etc. Distinctive uses various solvents to dissolve oil based spots. Care is taken not to overapply the solvent to prevent delamination of the carpet backing.
Organic Spots – These include coffee, tea, urine, vomit, etc. Distinctive uses an oxidizer to remove these spots.
Synthetic Dye Spots – These include dyes from food/drink such as Kool-Aid, Gatorade, colored candy, pet food, spaghetti sauce, etc. Distinctive uses a reducing agent and steam to remove spots like these.
What about spots that come back or “come up from the carpet pad” even after removal attempts?
- Some spots can wick up from the base to the carpet tip if not cleaned out 100%. Distinctive performs a thorough cleaning along with fast drying to ensure spots are completely removed.
- Some spots with a high alkalinity pH can attract soil or turn brown. Distinctive uses a specialized rinse to neutralize the pH.
- Some spots can return if foamy soap residue from a previous cleaning or spot removal attempts are left behind. Distinctive uses a defoamer solution to remove the residue.
- Some spots reappear because adhesive is left behind on carpet fibers from tape, stickers or plastic adhesive carpet protectors. Distinctive uses a solvent to remove the adhesive so it does not reattract soil.
What spots could be permanent?
Paint spots, synthetic dye stains, furniture stains and mustard stains may be permanent.
Color from carpet can be permanently removed/bleached out from overly aggressive or incorrect spot removal cleaners, such as bleach. Carpet may need to be replaced at this point. Or the spots could potentially be re-dyed to match the existing color of the carpet. Distinctive provides Carpet Spot Dyeing services – learn more here!
